Why people look past Unroll.Me
Unroll.Me is free, and its own pages explain how. It is owned by NielsenIQ, and it uses your commercial emails (subscriptions, purchase receipts, travel bookings, shipping confirmations) to build advertising and measurement products and datasets. Its privacy notice says it may “sell” or “share” data about those emails, with some demographic details, to customers that include e-commerce businesses and data brokers. It says your identifiable personal information is never sold to target you directly, and you can opt out of its measurement panel in settings.
The history makes people wary. In 2017 The New York Times reported that Unroll.Me's then parent, Slice, sold anonymized Lyft receipt data collected through Unroll.Me to Uber. In 2018 Unroll.Me closed to users in the European Union, saying its service wasn't designed to comply with all of GDPR's requirements. In December 2019 the FTC finalized an order after alleging that Unroll.Me told hesitant users it wouldn't touch their personal emails while sharing their e-receipts with Slice.
“There have been stories about Unroll selling data to third parties, I have not experienced this, but it has made it difficult to recommend to other people.”Nathan S., G2, August 2021
The second reason is accounts. Unroll.Me's help center says it does not support Outlook 365, which rules out many Microsoft work accounts. It supports Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, iCloud, and Outlook.com, connects Gmail with an app password (which needs 2-Step Verification, and which some work and school Google accounts can't create), and works in English (US) only.
The third is what Block does. Unroll.Me's help center says it moves a sender's future mail into an “Unroll.Me/Unsubscribed” folder in your mailbox, so the sender keeps mailing you. Some reviewers also say wanted mail ended up in its folders or digest.
“it doesn't unsubscribe anything. It sticks certain emails into a separate folder and i still have to go through the folder.”Gayle, Trustpilot, February 2025
“Sometimes an email I want gets dragged into the digest and there are days where the service seemingly doesn't work, letting my inbox get filled up in a hurry.”Alex B., G2, January 2019
Ratings split by platform. On Trustpilot Unroll.Me scores 2.5 across 13 reviews, and its 11 unprompted reviews average 2.36. Its phone app does far better: 4.7 across 131,757 App Store ratings, ahead of SaneBox's 4.6 across 648.

The 4 best Unroll.Me alternatives
SaneBox
Microsoft 365, and more than newslettersSaneBox is paid for by subscriptions. It says it decides what matters from message headers and your history with each sender, and that it doesn't store your email. It works with Microsoft 365 and Exchange, which Unroll.Me doesn't support, as well as Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, and any IMAP server. It also sorts more than subscriptions: newsletters go to SaneNews, senders you never want go to SaneBlackHole, and mail you don't open or answer waits in SaneLater, with one Daily Digest of what it moved. Like for like on Trustpilot, its 49 most recent unprompted reviews (June to September 2026) average 4.86, against 2.36 for Unroll.Me's 11 unprompted reviews (2012 to 2025). Unroll.Me is free, though, and SaneBox costs from $9.49 a month or $65 a year after a 7-day trial with no card. It also takes a few weeks to learn your mail, can misfile messages early on, and SaneBlackHole moves a sender's mail rather than unsubscribing you.

Real unsubscribesThe closest match to what Unroll.Me does, with one difference people switch for: it unsubscribes you at the source, by following the sender's link or emailing them for you. Rollups work like Unroll.Me's digest, and a Screener and Spam Blocker hold back new senders and cold pitches. It supports Office 365 as well as Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, AOL, Fastmail, and IMAP, and says it never sells your data. The first 10 unsubscribes are free with no card; after that it's a $19 one-off Seven Day Pass, or $9 a month for 4 accounts, with a 14-day money-back guarantee. On the downside, it reads and stores the content of mail you put in Rollups and reads mail for its Spam Blocker, there's no iOS app yet, and its 19 unprompted Trustpilot reviews average 4.37.
SaneBox vs Leave Me Alone →Clean Email
A one-time cleanup of old mailA cleanup app: it groups your mail by sender, size, and type so you can delete or archive thousands of messages at once. Its Unsubscriber sends unsubscribe requests and moves mail from lists that ignore them to Trash. It connects to Office 365 by Microsoft sign-in, says its servers read headers only, and says all its income comes from subscriptions rather than selling data. A free plan cleans up to 1,000 messages, but it excludes the Unsubscriber; paid plans start at $9.99 a month or $29.99 a year for one account, after a 14-day trial with no card. Its Terms make plans non-refundable, though, and a yearly plan is a 12-month contract. Of its 50 most recent Trustpilot reviews, 46 came through its own review link.
SaneBox vs Clean Email →Your email app's unsubscribe link
Free, nothing to connectMany email apps show an unsubscribe option at the top of mailing-list messages that include one. It costs nothing and gives no outside company access to your mailbox. But you work one sender at a time, it only helps with senders that offer the option, and there's no digest for the lists you want to keep.

What reviewers say about these Unroll.Me alternatives
Some reviewers name Unroll.Me as the tool they left, over data use or connection trouble. Each alternative draws its own complaints as well, so we quote both. On SaneBox:
“I used to do that with unroll.me, but once I realized how unroll.me was using my data, switching to sanebox was a no brainer.”Corinn P., G2, June 2021
“I also hoped I could easily unsubscribe from senders, but it seems that I’ve had to unsubscribe many times and still seem to get emails from recipients I don’t want.”Sara Westerfeld, Trustpilot, February 2018
On Leave Me Alone:
“I'm not having all the weird inbox connection and password issues that I would sometimes have with unroll.me.”Ethany Uttech, Trustpilot, January 2026
“Ever since I have used this app I have been locked out my emails, constant issues and emails are still coming in when I eventually get into my emails, then kicked out again”Chloe James, Trustpilot, July 2025
On Clean Email:
“I would've given it a 5 star rating but it blocked some new senders without a notification, so I got some delayed emails from some frustrated senders.”KC, Trustpilot, September 2026
When to stay with Unroll.Me
Stay if newsletters are your whole problem, you're comfortable with how it's funded, and your accounts are ones it supports. It costs nothing, connects as many addresses as you like, and its Rollup puts the lists you keep into one digest a day at a time you choose. If you stay, consider switching off “Measurement Panel Opt-In” in its web settings (“Manage Data Permissions” in the app). Its help center says that stops new collection, while data already collected is kept in anonymized form unless you delete your account.
Switch to SaneBox if you want every incoming email sorted rather than only subscriptions, you use Microsoft 365, or you'd rather pay a subscription than have your commercial email used in data products. Start with the 7-day trial, which needs no card, and read the full SaneBox review record and pricing first.

Unroll.Me alternatives FAQ
What are the best Unroll.Me alternatives?+
SaneBox if you want all incoming mail sorted by importance or use Microsoft 365; Leave Me Alone if you want lists unsubscribed at the source; Clean Email for a one-time cleanup of a large backlog; and your email app's own unsubscribe link if you want to stay free. SaneBox, Leave Me Alone, and Clean Email are paid for by subscriptions.
Why do people stop using Unroll.Me?+
Mostly over data use: Unroll.Me is owned by NielsenIQ and says it uses data from your commercial emails in products it sells, including to data brokers, and the FTC finalized an order against it in December 2019 over how it described that use. Others leave because it doesn't support Outlook 365, or because Block moves a sender's mail to a folder instead of unsubscribing you.
Is there a free alternative to Unroll.Me?+
Your email app's own unsubscribe link is free. Leave Me Alone gives 10 unsubscribes free with no card, and Clean Email has a free plan that cleans up to 1,000 messages but leaves out its Unsubscriber. SaneBox has no free plan; it offers a 7-day trial with no card, then costs from $9.49 a month.
Is SaneBox better than Unroll.Me?+
For a busy inbox, a Microsoft 365 account, or anyone uneasy about Unroll.Me's data use, yes: SaneBox sorts all incoming mail, works with Microsoft 365, and is paid for by subscriptions. If newsletters are your only problem and you want to pay nothing, Unroll.Me is simpler and free.
Does Unroll.Me work with Outlook 365?+
No. Unroll.Me's help center says it does not support Outlook 365, though it supports Outlook.com, Hotmail, MSN, and Live Mail addresses. SaneBox, Leave Me Alone, and Clean Email all work with Microsoft 365 accounts.
