Our verdict on SaneBox

Updated October 1, 2026

SaneBox does one job well: it moves the mail you don't need right now out of your inbox, in whatever email app you already use. Reviewers on every platform say it saves them time each week, and many have kept paying for years. The complaints are consistent too: it needs a few weeks of training, it can file away something important, and cancelling or removing it confuses people. Support and the iPhone app draw the most criticism, and the price adds up if you connect several accounts. PCMag gave it five stars and an Editors' Choice award in its May 2023 review.

SaneBox: A Smarter Way to Manage a High-Volume Inbox

I regularly receive more than 250 emails per day, and managing that volume had become increasingly difficult. Since discovering SaneBox and deciding to try it, I have been very pleased with the results. SaneBox automatically organizes my emails into folders that are simple to create and manage, which saves valuable time and makes it much easier to identify important messages. For example, news-related emails are directed to my News folder, finance-related emails to my Finance folder, entertainment emails to my Entertainment folder, and so forth. One of the most useful features is the BlackHole folder, which allows me to move unwanted emails out of my inbox; once a sender has been placed there, future messages from that sender are automatically routed to the same location. This has been particularly helpful for managing emails that bypass my spam filter. Overall, my email is now more organized than it has ever been. SaneBox is also highly trainable: once folders are created in my mail application, I can move messages to the appropriate folder, and SaneBox learns to route future emails from those senders accordingly. I give SaneBox 5 stars for ease to set-up, its performance, and its low cost for the benefit it provides.

10+ years of use - favorite email tool

Ten years of a cleaner inbox, less stress, and more time back in my day. SaneBox is literally irreplaceable. What they like: After more than a decade of daily use, SaneBox remains one of the smartest investments I've made for my productivity. It works with any email client, setup takes minutes, and it just gets better over time. My inbox used to be unmanageable. Now it's under control — and stays that way. If email is eating your day, this is the fix. What they dislike: There is nothing that I dislike about SaneBox. Genuinely, it simply works 100% of the time that I need it!

SaneBox Saves Me Hundreds of Hours

I would have a hard time keeping up with my inbox without SaneBox. My 2025 stats really show the impact: 68,380 emails received, 68,633 emails archived, 407 emails on my busiest day, and an estimated 416 hours saved. SaneBox works excellent, provided you follow the process and use it consistently. It helps keep email manageable by sorting out the messages that do not need immediate attention, so I can focus on the emails that actually matter. The time and effort it saves me makes a real difference. SaneBox has become one of those tools I rely on every day, and I highly recommend it.

Sanebox restored sanity

This product saves me at least 5 hours per week. I'm a consultant so my business literally is responding to client questions by email. Seamlessly integrates with Outlook Office 365 Enterprise. What they like: I was getting several hundred emails per day that were not junk, but did not require action. The Sane Later feature allows me to skim through and a few seconds delete them all, while finding the 1 or two that required action but sender was not previously whitewashed. I love that dragging to inbox trains the system instantly to do that the next time from that sender. Now I can focus on the 75-100 actionable emails per day. What they dislike: Nothing to dislike. I've only focused on the Sane Later feature.

The Best Tool I've Used for Email Organization

As the Director of IT at an independent school, I receive a high volume of email every day. SaneBox has significantly improved my productivity by keeping my inbox focused on the messages that require my immediate attention while automatically organizing less critical emails into separate folders. What I appreciate most is that the system learns from my preferences and continues to improve over time. It has helped reduce inbox clutter and made email management far more efficient.

Worth it!

I am neurodivergent and chronically ill, and despite several cleanup attempts, email has been a nightmare for me for years. It often causes overwhelming anxiety and avoidance. SaneBox has a learning curve. Their FAQs are helpful, but the unfamiliar terminology and difficulty in locating certain settings can be challenging. However, once you understand it and customize your system, it becomes a lifesaver! I'm immensely grateful for SaneBox. It truly brings sanity to my inbox.

Email Under Control: Digest Scheduling and SaneBlackHole Are Game-Changers

Inbox clarity and empowerment What they like: SaneBox has allowed me to truly put a "container" around my email. Instead of being constantly interrupted, I have it set up to open my digest at 2:00 PM each day. By the time I open it, I feel completely empowered and in the right headspace to review what’s accumulated in my SaneLater and SaneNews folders. I also absolutely love the SaneBlackHole feature. It is incredibly satisfying to drop random, unwanted emails in there and know I’ll never have to deal with them again. Highly recommend! What they dislike: Honestly, there isn't much to complain about. It takes a few days of training to get the filters exactly where you want them, but the AI learns incredibly fast. It's well worth the tiny initial effort.

SaneBox: Effortless Email Management

SaneBox filters out unimportant emails, saving me at least 5 hours each week and lets me focus on more valuable tasks. What they like: I love how SaneBox manages all the clutter in my e-mail inboxes by catching unimportant mail and filtering it into other folders, and it also flags important e-mails for my quick response. Since using it, I've saved at least 5 hours each week because I don't have to manually manage my inbox. The extra time I save allows me to spend more time on other activities. The initial setup was very easy, just by pointing it at my e-mail inboxes, and it created an API token to start sorting e-mail immediately. I find the web app very easy to follow, and it's great that I can use SaneBox with both Outlook and Gmail. What they dislike: The mobile app could use some better organization in the UI.

Effortless Email Management with SaneBox

I use SaneBox to manage my emails, separating important ones from those that can wait, so I face less distraction in the morning. Its simple features like SaneLater and SaneNews help limit distractions and keep my inbox organized. What they like: I really appreciate how SaneBox helps me manage my emails by separating what's important from what can wait, which reduces distractions in the morning. I value the organization it brings, especially with the Sane Later and Sane News features. They're simple and limit distractions effectively. Even with the simplest usage, it's terrific. The initial setup was very easy, even for someone like me who isn't into complicated systems. SaneBox is so helpful it feels like having an assistant, and I'd rate it a 10 for recommendation. What they dislike: nothing to dislike

SaneBox Will Change Your Email Game

I love this app. I recently bought 2 years worth of the service and would recommend it to others. What they like: -Automates some of the most labor-intensive aspects of email -Adds many features to email such as snooze, reminders, and "no replies" functions to allow you to stay on top of your game -Great "Inbox Academy" helps you learn great skills for managing lots of email -DoNotDisturb function is awesome for getting away for the weekend, etc. What they dislike: -Has a little bit of a learning curve to it - the dashboard has a lot of power but could be intimidating if you aren't comfortable with a lot of preferences and tweaks

Great service, decent functional app

I’ve been a subscriber with Sanebox going on my 2nd year. The service is good, the customer service (on rare occasions I have questions) is amazing, and this app that now goes with it just makes it even better. I procrastinate on skimming the digest of the AI trainings to review them for accuracy sometimes, but this app looks to make that simple. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that I can now perform custom swipe and button actions now. Yay for this app, sanebox + the app are the best thing since broadband internet became available. (oddly, the service has been around almost longer than broadband. There’s no surprise why! I have no idea why so few of my friends know about it, except that it’s difficult to explain to people who are intimidated by anything techie.)

What SaneBox actually does differently

Works in the email app you already use

SaneBox sorts mail into ordinary folders on your mail server, such as SaneLater and SaneNews. Because they're plain folders, the sorting shows up in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, or any IMAP app on desktop and phone, and there's nothing to install.

Learns from what you open and answer

It decides what matters from your history with each sender: which emails you open, which you answer, and how quickly. Sorting reads only the message headers, and SaneBox doesn't keep copies of your email. To fix a mistake, you move the message to the folder it belongs in.

SaneBlackHole for senders who won't stop

Drag one email into SaneBlackHole and later mail from that sender stays out of your inbox, which helps when an unsubscribe link doesn't work.

Follow-up tracking

SaneNoReplies collects the emails you started that got no reply, and Reminders bring a message back if nobody answers by a time you set.

Snooze folders that work in any app

Move an email to SaneTomorrow or SaneNextWeek and it returns to the inbox then, even in apps with no snooze button. Custom snooze folders run from 3 hours to 26 weeks.

Who SaneBox is for

Founders, executives, and investors with hundreds of emails a day

Mail from colleagues and clients gets buried under newsletters and cold pitches, so they keep checking the inbox to avoid missing it.

SaneBox leaves mail from known contacts in the inbox and moves the rest to SaneLater, then lists what it moved in a daily Digest. Snack covers one account and two features, with SaneLater counting as one; Lunch covers two accounts with six features each.

Consultants and freelancers with an inbox for every client

Each client brings its own address and its own stream of mail, and a reply that never came is easy to forget.

SaneBox sorts each connected account the same way, SaneNoReplies collects the emails you sent that got no answer, and Reminders bring a thread back on a date you pick. Lunch covers 2 accounts and Dinner 4, with every feature on Dinner.

People for whom a full inbox causes real stress

Several reviewers, including neurodivergent and chronically ill users, describe email as a source of anxiety they kept putting off.

SaneBox moves the noise out before they open the inbox and gathers it in one daily Digest, so what's left is short. Any plan works; Snack covers one account.

People with work and personal addresses on different providers

A Microsoft 365 work account, a personal Gmail, and an old iCloud or Yahoo address each need triage, often in different apps.

SaneBox connects to Gmail, Microsoft 365, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, and any IMAP or Exchange server, with the same folders in each. Lunch covers 2 accounts and Dinner 4; SaneBox sets up more on request.

Teams and IT leads rolling it out across a company

A team loses hours a week to email, and IT wants central control and a security review before anyone connects a mailbox.

SaneBox for Business adds company-wide rules, admin controls, Active Directory and Microsoft 365 integration, and a Salesforce integration for Salesforce Enterprise customers. Team pricing goes through SaneBox's sales team.

Schools, nonprofits, and government offices

Staff need the same inbox help on a smaller budget.

SaneBox takes 25% off any plan for educational, nonprofit, and government agencies. You claim it by contacting support during the free trial.

SaneBox FAQ

Is SaneBox worth it?+

For people who get a lot of email, most reviewers say yes: they report saving from 30 minutes a day to 5 hours a week, and many have paid for it for years. It's harder to justify if you get little email or need several accounts on a budget. Its AI reply drafts are a beta you ask support to turn on.

Is SaneBox free?+

No. There's no free plan, but every plan starts with a 7-day free trial that includes all features on up to 4 email accounts, and it doesn't ask for a credit card. Paid plans start at $9.49 a month, or $65 a year, and SaneBox offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on eligible purchases if you ask support.

Is SaneBox safe and legit?+

Yes. SaneBox, Inc. has run since 2010 from Boston without outside funding, and it holds a 4.7 average across 1,700+ ratings on Trustpilot, G2, Capterra, and the App Store. PCMag gave it five stars and an Editors' Choice award in its May 2023 review. It decides what's important from email headers rather than message bodies and says it doesn't store your email. The Google security assessment (CASA Tier 2) it links on its security page ran from April 2025 to April 2026, and no renewal is posted yet. It does need broad access to your mailbox, which a few reviewers were uneasy about.

What are the biggest complaints about SaneBox?+

Four come up most: important mail filed away while it's still learning, trouble cancelling or removing its folders, support that some found slow or unhelpful, and an iPhone app people find clumsy. One long-time user also says sorting got worse after a service outage in September 2025.

How do I cancel SaneBox?+

Cancel from the Account changes section of your SaneBox settings. You can keep its folders or have SaneBox move their mail back to your inbox. Cancelling doesn't trigger a refund; to use the 30-day money-back guarantee you have to ask support.

Does SaneBox work with Gmail and Outlook?+

Yes. It works with Gmail, Microsoft 365 and Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, and any IMAP or Exchange account, and its folders show up in whichever email app you use.
