The 6 best email management tools in 2026, ranked by what each does best
By Jean Luc Poitier, SEO and growth marketing strategist · SaneBox Reviews · Updated October 1, 2026
Disclosure: this site reviews SaneBox and earns a commission if you sign up for it through our links. SaneBox is one option below, and we say where it isn't the right fix.
SaneBox ranks first for most busy inboxes. It sorts each new message by how you treat its sender and files the rest into folders you check when you choose, inside the email app you already use, with any provider. It costs from $9.49 a month and has a 7-day trial with no card, but it needs a few weeks of training and gets expensive across several accounts.
Pick Clean Email to clear a large backlog cheaply, Leave Me Alone to unsubscribe for real, Superhuman or Shortwave if you want a new AI email app, and Unroll.Me only if free matters more than how your data is used.

The 6 best email management tools, ranked
1. SaneBox
Inbox filterBest overall for sorting mail by importance inside the email app you already use
SaneBox works on your mail server. It moves each new message into ordinary folders (SaneLater, SaneNews, SaneBlackHole, and snooze folders such as SaneTomorrow) based on how you treat that sender, so the sorting shows up in any email app on any device. It also tracks sent mail that got no reply, sends a daily digest of what it moved, and has an Email Deep Clean for old mail. Lunch covers two accounts for $15.99 a month and Dinner covers four for $42.99 a month. PCMag gave it 5 out of 5 and an Editors' Choice in its May 2023 review.
Watch out for: It needs a few weeks of you moving misfiled mail before the sorting settles, and it can still misfile something important. It gets expensive with several accounts, phone support comes only with Dinner, and it isn't an email client: its AI reply drafts are a beta you request from support.
“It works with any email client, setup takes minutes, and it just gets better over time.”Tom B., Capterra, May 2026
2. Clean Email
Cleanup appBest for clearing a big backlog, and the cheapest way to cover several accounts
Clean Email groups your mail by sender, size, date, and type so you can delete, archive, or unsubscribe in bulk, then applies your rules to new mail in the background. Its Unsubscriber sends requests for you and moves lists that ignore them to Trash, and its Screener holds first-time senders. Every paid plan includes every feature: five accounts are $49.99 a year and ten are $99.99 a year. You use its web, iOS, Mac, or Android app.
Watch out for: Its own SaneBox comparison says it doesn't rank incoming mail by importance, and it has no follow-up tracking or daily digest. Its terms make payments non-refundable apart from narrow exceptions, and the yearly plan is a 12-month contract.
“it blocked some new senders without a notification, so I got some delayed emails from some frustrated senders.”KC, Trustpilot, September 2026
3. Leave Me Alone
UnsubscriberBest for unsubscribing for real, with a one-off pass if you don't want a subscription
Leave Me Alone follows each list's unsubscribe link, or emails the sender for you, and the unsubscribes last after you stop paying. Rollups gather chosen senders into a digest, a Screener holds new senders, and a Spam Blocker catches cold outreach. Unlimited accounts cost $16 a month, and there is a 14-day money-back guarantee. You keep your own email app.
Watch out for: It doesn't sort the rest of your mail by importance. There's no iOS app yet, and its privacy policy says the Spam Blocker reads message content and keeps some of it to train its classifiers.
“The free version actually gives you 10 TRUE UNSUBSCRIBE uses.”Vince, Trustpilot, September 2025
4. Superhuman
AI email clientBest for heavy email users on Gmail or Microsoft 365 who want a keyboard-driven AI client
Superhuman Mail replaces Gmail's or Outlook's interface with its own apps for Mac, Windows, the web, iOS, and Android. It offers Split Inbox, AI Auto Labels and Auto Archive, AI drafts in your voice, keyboard shortcuts, reminders, read statuses, and team features such as shared conversations and comments.
Watch out for: It costs more than three times SaneBox's Snack plan, has no unified inbox, and doesn't support iCloud, Yahoo, or IMAP. Its Terms say payments are non-refundable, and its privacy policy says it trains its own AI models on user content unless you switch that off.
“the first week or two of forcing yourself onto shortcuts is genuinely slower before it becomes faster.”Shai D., G2, July 2026
5. Shortwave
AI email clientBest for Gmail users who want an AI email client with a free plan
Shortwave is a separate email client with an AI assistant that can search, write, and organize from a prompt, plus splits, bundles, delivery schedules, snooze, and reminders, on iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and the web. On the Business plan ($30 per seat a month) and up, AI filters sort new mail from rules you describe in plain language.
Watch out for: It doesn't support Microsoft 365 or Exchange. The free plan adds a 'Sent with Shortwave' signature, and there's no annual billing. It reads email content for its AI features and lists OpenAI, Anthropic, and Pinecone as sub-processors. A refund is available on request within 14 days of a payment.
“The ability to only access 90 days of emails for free.”Kshitij J., G2, August 2022
6. Unroll.Me
Unsubscriber (free, data-funded)Best free option for a daily digest of subscriptions, if you accept how it's funded
Unroll.Me lists your subscriptions and lets you Block, Keep, or Rollup each one. Block moves a sender's future mail to an "Unroll.Me/Unsubscribed" folder, and Rollup gathers the rest into one daily digest. Its App Store rating, 4.7 across 131,757 ratings, is the highest of the tools we checked there.
Watch out for: It is owned by NielsenIQ and uses data from your commercial emails in products sold to companies, including data brokers; you can opt out of its measurement panel. It settled FTC charges in 2019 over how it described its access to users' email, and it supports English (US) only.
“There have been stories about Unroll selling data to third parties, I have not experienced this, but it has made it difficult to recommend to other people.”Nathan S., G2, August 2021
How the email management tools' reviews compare, like for like
Overall scores mostly show whether a company asks its customers for reviews, so we split them. On Trustpilot, overall scores are SaneBox 4.8 (758 reviews), Leave Me Alone 4.8 (97), Clean Email 4.6 (714), Unroll.Me 2.5 (13), and Superhuman 2.0 (12, an unclaimed profile); Shortwave has none. The table below separates invited from unprompted reviews in our pull. Clean Email's and Leave Me Alone's Trustpilot pages say they haven't invited customers recently, while the per-review tags mark most of their recent reviews as coming through the company's own link.
Compared that way, SaneBox leads on unprompted Trustpilot reviews (4.86 across 49), and its recent G2 reviews average 4.76 with none marked incentivized, while most of Superhuman's and Shortwave's are. Leave Me Alone's 19 unprompted reviews are also strong at 4.37. On the App Store, Unroll.Me rates highest at 4.7, and SaneBox, Superhuman, and Clean Email sit between 4.5 and 4.6.
| Tool | Trustpilot, recent reviews | G2, 50 most recent | App Store (US) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SaneBox | 50 most recent: 49 unprompted, avg 4.86 | 4.76; 0 of 50 incentivized | 4.6 (648 ratings) |
| Clean Email | 50 most recent: 46 invited, avg 4.91; 4 unprompted, avg 1.25 | No usable pull | 4.5 (3.8K ratings) |
| Leave Me Alone | All 97: 78 invited, avg 4.99; 19 unprompted, avg 4.37 | Not checked | No iOS app |
| Superhuman | All 12: unprompted, avg 1.5 | 4.71; 42 of 50 incentivized | 4.6 (3.7K ratings) |
| Shortwave | No reviews | 4.54; 47 of 50 incentivized (to Sep 2025) | Not checked |
| Unroll.Me | All 13: 11 unprompted, avg 2.36 | 25 reviews from 2019 to 2022, avg 4.08 | 4.7 (131,757 ratings) |
Our pulls of 2026-10-01. Trustpilot: we count reviews tagged “Organic” as unprompted and those from a company review link as invited. G2 marks incentivized reviews itself; Clean Email's G2 pull matched a different product, so we don't cite one, and our G2 pull for Unroll.Me found 25 reviews in total. “Not checked” means we didn't pull that platform.
Choosing an email management tool: filter, cleanup app, unsubscriber, or client
Start with what wears you down. If it's the daily stream, where a few messages that need you are buried among newsletters and notifications, a filter such as SaneBox handles it without changing how you read mail. If it's years of old mail, a cleanup app such as Clean Email clears it faster. If it's lists you never signed up for, an unsubscriber such as Leave Me Alone removes them at the source.
An AI email client such as Superhuman or Shortwave makes sense if you want to change how you work in email, with shortcuts, AI drafts, and team features, and you use the providers they support. Some people combine tools: a one-time cleanup or unsubscribe pass, then a filter for what keeps arriving. Our inbox cleanup guide walks through that order, and the SaneBox alternatives and Superhuman alternatives pages match tools to specific reasons for switching.
How we compared these email management tools
We read each company's own pricing page, help center on supported providers, terms of service, and privacy policy, pulled reviews from Trustpilot and G2, and read App Store ratings, all on October 1, 2026. Ratings are compared like for like: Trustpilot's invited and unprompted reviews separately, with sample sizes, and G2 reviews with the share marked incentivized. Quotes are verbatim, critical ones included.
We ranked by fit for the most common job: keeping a busy inbox under control. Tools that work inside the app you already use, with any provider, rank above email clients that replace your app and support fewer providers. Unroll.Me ranks last because of how it is funded. This site reviews SaneBox and earns a commission on sign-ups through our links; we earn nothing from the other five. Details are on our methodology page.
