How to cancel SaneBox, remove its folders, and get a refund

By Jean Luc Poitier, SEO and growth marketing strategist · SaneBox Reviews · Updated October 1, 2026 · Steps from SaneBox's help center

Getting out is the most common problem in SaneBox's critical reviews. Most of it comes from three things the cancel button doesn't do for you: it doesn't refund you, it doesn't cancel an App Store subscription, and it leaves the folders in place unless you ask it to remove them.

“I took the time to go to their website and CLOSE my account.”Kruppscya, App Store, December 2024

Cancel SaneBox in five steps

  1. 1. Log in and open Settings for the email account you want to cancel, on the SaneBox website.
  2. 2. Find “Account changes” and click View. The cancel option is there. SaneBox may suggest fixes based on your reason for leaving; you can skip them.
  3. 3. Choose what happens to the folders. “Remove” moves the mail in @SaneLater, @SaneNews, @SaneBlackHole and the others back to your inbox and deletes the folders. “Keep” leaves the folders and their mail where they are.
  4. 4. Confirm, and wait for the email. SaneBox emails you when the cancellation is complete. If you connected several accounts, repeat the steps for each one.
  5. 5. Revoke its access. In your Google, Microsoft, or other email account's security settings, remove SaneBox from the apps with access, and delete any app-specific password you created for it.

How to get a SaneBox refund

SaneBox offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on eligible purchases, and its Terms say it will “cheerfully refund the amount within 30 days of purchase” if it can't fix what you're unhappy with. The refund isn't automatic: cancelling partway through a paid period doesn't refund the unused part. Send a help request from the SaneBox site, say you want a refund under the 30-day guarantee, and do it before the 30 days are up.

If you paid through the iPhone app, Apple handled the payment, so cancel in your Apple ID's Subscriptions settings and ask Apple about a refund for that charge.

If the folders or filtering are still there

SaneBox's folders are ordinary folders on your mail server, so they don't vanish when you delete the phone app or close the browser tab. Removed folders can also sit in Trash or Deleted Items for a while; SaneBox says that doesn't mean the mail inside was deleted. A few reviewers say mail kept moving after they cancelled, and one says their mail was deleted rather than returned, so before you cancel, look through the SaneBox folders for anything you want to keep.

“I cancelled over the weekend and my emails were not returned to me inbox as indicated, instead they were deleted.”SBC’s IPhone, App Store, January 2023

If anything still moves after the confirmation email and the access revoke, contact SaneBox support with the account address and the date you cancelled.

Cancelling SaneBox FAQ

Does cancelling SaneBox give me a refund?+

No. SaneBox's help center says cancelling and requesting a refund are two separate actions. Within 30 days of purchase, eligible purchases can be refunded, but you have to ask SaneBox support for it.

What happens to my emails when I cancel SaneBox?+

You choose. Keep the folders, and they stay in your account with their mail inside; remove them, and SaneBox moves that mail back to your inbox and deletes the folders. Removed folders can show up in Trash for a while, which SaneBox says doesn't mean the mail was deleted.

Does deleting the SaneBox app cancel my subscription?+

No. The app only shows your SaneBox account; the service runs on SaneBox's servers. Cancel in your SaneBox account settings. If you subscribed inside the iPhone app, the subscription is billed by Apple, so also cancel it in your Apple ID subscriptions.

Why is SaneBox still filtering my email after I cancelled?+

Its folders are ordinary folders on your mail server, so they stay if you chose to keep them. If mail keeps moving, check that the cancellation went through (SaneBox emails you when it's complete), revoke its access in your email account's security settings, and contact SaneBox support.
